On a Halloween night in October 2023, the two unexpected were introduced at their mutual friend Jerry's party. The costumes? Cat lazily dressed as a marathon runner and Ryan showed up as Ghostface from the Scream horror movies. After chatting for a while, Ryan looked down at Cat's marathon medal and this was the exchange:
RYAN
Is this real?!
CAT
Yes. I ran the marathon last weekend.
RYAN
You're a badass.
The two then spent the majority of the night laughing, chatting about mutual interests, and sharing Dunkaroos and Warhead candies.
They haven't stopped speaking since.
